Why KyroStat

A modern alternative to SPSS and GraphPad Prism

Desktop statistics software earned its place over decades. KyroStat keeps what those tools got right, familiar output and real statistical engines, and rebuilds everything around how academic research actually works now.

Getting started

Traditional desktop tools

Desktop statistics packages are installed and licensed per machine. Getting access usually means a lab computer, a university license server, or a personal purchase, and version mismatches between your machine and your supervisor’s are routine.

KyroStat

KyroStat runs in the browser. There is nothing to install, no license key, and no version drift: you, your supervisor, and your co-authors are always on the same software. Open a tab, upload data, analyse.

The learning curve

Traditional desktop tools

Traditional tools assume you already know which test you need; the menus and syntax only help you execute it. For a first-year graduate student, choosing between an independent t-test and a Mann-Whitney U is exactly the hard part.

KyroStat

KyroStat starts from your research question, stated in plain language, and recommends candidate tests with a rationale for each. It teaches while it assists: you see why a test fits your question and its assumptions before you run it, and the choice stays yours.

Transparency

Traditional desktop tools

Point-and-click analyses leave no artifact of what was actually done. Reconstructing which options were ticked in which dialog three months later, when a reviewer asks, is a familiar misery.

KyroStat

Every KyroStat analysis returns the exact Python or R code that ran, and the report records package versions. Your analysis is reproducible by construction, which is increasingly what journals, reviewers, and pre-registration expect.

From result to manuscript

Traditional desktop tools

Desktop output tables usually need manual reformatting to meet APA 7, and the result sentence is typed by hand: the step where transcription errors creep into published papers.

KyroStat

KyroStat outputs APA 7 tables directly and assembles the APA result sentence deterministically from the computed statistics, with effect sizes and confidence intervals included. Reported p-values are recomputed and cross-checked before export, the same check journals run with statcheck.

Cost

Traditional desktop tools

Per-seat commercial licenses are priced for institutions. For an individual student, or a lab outfitting ten people, the cost is a real barrier, and it recurs every year.

KyroStat

KyroStat is priced to be affordable for students and academic labs. Create an account to see the current plans; there is no per-seat desktop license to justify to a grants office.

An honest note

When a desktop package is still the right call

We would rather you pick the right tool than pick us for the wrong job. A traditional package still makes sense if:

  • You need advanced procedures far outside the common test families, such as structural equation modelling or complex mixed models, today.
  • Your institution mandates a specific package for a course, and the assignment is about learning that package.
  • You have no reliable internet access where you analyse data.

For everything else, from a t-test to a full dissertation analysis with APA-ready output, see how KyroStat works and what is included.
